WHAT IS "GENEROUS"?
God is doing great things in Knoxville and since our birth in 2010, we've strived to be the kind of church that is actively part of it. As we enter into our 15th year, we’re asking every person who calls The Point their church home to give a special year-end gift and live an ongoing lifestyle of generosity through a new or increased commitment to support the mission of The Point - to connect the disconnected to a growing & reproducing relationship with Christ.
HERE'S WHY:
As our search for a permanent space continues, we may not know WHERE God is leading us to be located as a church but we certainly know WHO he’s leading us to be as a church... generous.
HERE'S HOW
God calls his people to radical generosity. In Acts 2 in particular, Luke writes about the early church, "And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity."
We hope to follow the early church's lead & be a radically generous church who can live, give, and build. A good chunk of our weekly tithes & offerings help us simply live, ie. function as a church community. We also want to be a church that boldly gives. While we already give 10% of our tithes & offerings to the missions & efforts of the Mid-South District of our greater church (the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod), we want to intentionally increase that number & give another 10% to efforts & organizations right here in our community of Knoxville as well. Finally, we hope to intentionally build our future by putting 10% of tithes & offerings into savings.
THE GOALS:
The first goal of Generous is to raise $25,000... to give away! This will put us on track to give generously to our city all year long, including at least 20% of our weekly tithes & offerings.
The second goal is to spur us toward giving our time & energy along with our finances. Over the course of 2025, you're invited to join us in quarterly "large" volunteer opportunities in our community, along with a sprinkling of "smaller" opportunities in between where we will be able to tangibly serve those with needs in and around Knoxville.
The third goal is to go above & beyond. We're asking everyone who calls The Point home to pray about setting up consistent online giving. This consistency allows us to confidently cover the "living" portion (bills & such) so even more resources are free to both give away & be saved as we continue to search for a permanent space to gather as a church. Basically, making the decision to give consistently (even a small amount!) opens us up for more freedom & joy in giving all year long.
We ask you to pray about this because giving consistently is a beautiful act of trust & an opportunity to strengthen your relationship with Jesus. Talk to God about it. Be candid about any hesitations or fears. We believe that he has joy in store for you! We dove into the practice of generosity earlier this fall and you can still access those videos & resources here.
The final goal is the same goal we have every year - 100% participation! Even if you can only give a few pennies, we invite you to join us in these goals as we wrap up 2024 & look ahead to 2025. Join us as we become the church God wants us to be & give generously to our city.
SO NOW WHAT?
If you call The Point your church home, would you consider how you can grow in generosity to help us reach our first goals of $25,000 and 100% participation by our church family?
